Conjunctions (Bağlaçlar) PART-2 

5) Cause Conjunction (Neden Bildiren Bağlaçlar)

a) Because, As, Since, Seeing that, Now that, Given that (çünkü,…den dolayı, … olduğu için)

- I have failed the exam because I didn’t study enough. (Sınavdan kaldım çünkü yeterince çalışmadım.)

- As it was a fine day, everybody went out. (Güzel bir gün olduğu için, herkes dışarı çıktı.)

- Since you are a rich man, you can spend much money. (Zengin bir insan olduğun için çok para harcayabilirsin.)

- Given that the circumstances are convenient, we have to start implementing the project. (Koşullar uygun olduğundan dolayı, projeyi uygulamaya başlayabiliriz.)

b) Due to the fact that, Owing to the fact that, Because of the fact that, On account of the fact that,  In view of the fact that ( ..........den dolayı)

- Due to the fact that the economy was in recession, the company cut down its production. (Ekonominin durgun olması gerçeği karşısında, şirket üretimini azalttı.)

Bu cümlede “due to the fact that” ile aynı anlama gelmek üzere “owing to the fact that” kullanılabilir.

6) Zıtlık bildiren Bağlaçlar = Concession Conjunctions

a) Though, Even though, Although, Despite the fact that, In spite of the fact that ( ……’e rağmen)

- Despite the fact that (=In spite of the fact that) his company was going bankrupt, he continued his extravagant life.   (Şirketinin iflasa gidiyor olmasına rağmen, pahalı yaşamına devam etti.)

b) Whereas, While  (Halbuki , Oysa)

- Nobody gave him a hand when he was in difficulty, whereas (=while) he had been helpful to everybody in past.   (Zor zamanında ona kimse yardımcı olmadı, halbuki o geçmişte herkese yardımcı olmuştu.)

c) However, Ne kadar (…..olsa da …)

- However hard he tries, he can’t get anything from his work. (Ne kadar gayret ederse etsin, çalışmalarından bir sonuç alamıyor.)

d) Whatever

- Whatever he does, he can’t please his wife. (Ne yaparsa yapsın karısını memnun edemiyor.)

- Whatever your ideas are, you have to explain them. (Fikirlerin her neyse, onları açıklaman gerekir.)

- Whatever your problem is, you have to tackle it. (Problemin ne olursa olsun, onunla halletmelisin.)

e) No Matter

- No matter what happens, I will stand by you. (Ne olursa olsun seni destekleyeceğim.)

7) Sonuç Bildiren Bağlaçlar = Result Conjunction

a) So that

- I was so embarrassed that I wanted to die. (O kadar utandım ki ölmek istedim.)

- She is so beautiful that everyman in the town fell in love with her. (O kadar güzel ki, şehirdeki her erkek ona aşık oldu.)

b) Such that

- He is such an idiot that he may make every foolishness. (O öyle bir salak ki, her türlü aptallığı yapabilir.)

8) Purpose Conjunctions (Amaç Bildiren Bağlaçlar)

a) In order to ( …-mek,-mak için)

- I have spared much money in order to afford a car. (Araba alacak mali güce ulaşmak için para biriktirdim.)

- In order to avoid problems, we have taken strict measures. (Sorunları önlemek için sert önlemler aldık.)

Not: “in order to” yerine sadece “to” da kullanılabilir.

- We all went out for a picnic to get some fresh air. (Temiz hava almak için hepimiz pikniğe gittik.)

b) In order that

- In order that I could watch the football match on TV, I kicked everybody out of the room. (Futbol maçını seyredebileyim diye herkesi odadan kovdum.)

c) So as to

- We have arranged everything for the party so as to please all the guests. (Partide tüm konukları memnun edecek şekilde herşeyi düzenledik.)

- I am leaving the house immediately so as not to miss the airplane. (Evden uçağı kaçırmamak için (uçağı kaçırmamak üzere) hemen çıkıyorum.)

- They made the meeting at a quiet place so as not to hear the noise of the traffic. (Toplantıyı trafiğin gürültüsünü duymayacak şekilde sakin bir yerde yaptılar.)

d) So that

- Please stand up so that I can see how tall you are. (Lütfen ayağa kalkta ne kadar uzun olduğunu görebileyim.)

e) So

- It is rush hour so be careful when you are driving. (Bu saat iş saati bu nedenle saraba sürerken dikkatli ol.)

9) Expectation Conjunction (Beklenti İfade Eden Belirten Bağlaçlar)

a) In case, Just in case

- You have to take an umbrella with you in case it rains. (Yağmur ihtimaline karşı yanına şemsiye almalısın.)

- I will punish you in case you disobey the rules. (Kurallara itaat etmemen halinde seni cezalandıracağım.)

- Just in case a fire breaks out, we should have several fire distinguishers. (Yangın çıkması halinde birkaç yangın söndürücümüz olmalı.)

b) Lest

Az kullanılan bir bağlaçtır. Üst düzey İngilizcedir.

- The children obey their parents lest they cut down their pocket money. (Çocuklar, cep harçlıklarını azaltmasınlar diye ebeveynlerine itaat ediyorlar.)

- The technician control everything carefully lest no problem arises during the operation. (Teknisyen, operasyon sırasında hiç sorun çıkmasın diye herşeyi dikatlice kontrol etti.)

c) For fear that  (..korkusuyla)

- She left her husband for fear that he should give her a beating. (Onu döver korkusuyla kocasını terketti.)

- The colonel forbid the soldiers to light fires for fear that the enemy might locate them. (Albay düşman yerlerini tespit eder korkusuyla askerlerin ateş yakmasını yasakladı.)
